Carlton Community College is a comprehensive secondary school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It is an 11-16 Specialist Science and Performing Arts School. It has 1010 students on roll. It also has an autistic unit that can accommodate the educational needs of 25 pupils, and a pupil referral unit that can accommodate the educational needs of 10 pupils with behavioural issues. Carlton Community College was formed in September 2009 from the previous Edward Sheerien (which was previously called St. Helen's Secondary Modern and was where parts of Kes were filmed in 1969) and Royston High schools. It moved in to a new building in January 2011 and serves the communities of Carlton, Athersley and Royston. The school is due to convert to academy status in December 2015, sponsored by the Outwood Grange Academies Trust. ==References==
